OUR REPAIR SERVICES

At D3 Research, our repair services will get your firearm back to prime shooting condition!
We offer a wide variety of repair services, including:

SIMPLE PART REPLACEMENT

This includes extractors, springs, pins, and screws as well as re-barreling due to wear. This does not include any upgraded components.

HAND-FITTING

If certain parts are oversized, we can file them down so that they will better fit the firearm.

MAGAZINE FITTING & ADJUSTMENT

Solves feed issues caused by the way the top round is held in the magazine.

FEED RAMP POLISHING

Also, Barrel Extension Deburr & Polishing. This helps to reduces drag as the cartridge rides into the chamber.

GAS OPERATED SYSTEM TUNING

If you are experiencing short cycling, not holding open, or excessive recoil for the caliber you are shooting then the system is out of balance.  Usually a part can be changed to improve the performance.  Less commonly, the gas port may need to be resized.

WELD REPAIR

When necessary, we can weld-repair certain non-pressure bearing metal components. The heat from welding affects the properties of the surrounding metal, which can compromise the integrity and safety of components meant to withstand the pressure cycles of firing.

REMAKING PARTS

We can remake most metal parts that are not available for purchase or that cost enough to make the shop rate economical.

CLEAR BARREL OBSTRUCTIONS

We are able to remove barrel obstructions (squib loads) from all firearms, including revolvers. Depending on the action type, it may just need a rod to push the obstruction through. However, we do have the ability to pull a bullet from the muzzle end if it cannot be accessed from the breach end.

CONDITION EVALUATION

By request, we will evaluate the condition of a firearm by inspection, checking function and measuring headspace. During the inspection, we will be checking for any unsafe conditions and for function. Firearms are only taken apart to the extent needed (usually a field strip similar to what you do during cleaning). Specifically, we will be looking for anything effecting the integrity of the pressure bearing components such as:

  • Rust
  • Pitting cracks
  • Deformation
  • Corrosion
  • Excessive wear or dirtiness that may affect the function of the action
  • Condition of the fire control components and safeties
  • Any condition that may allow an unintended firing

Outside of visual signs of wear, we will also check the mechanical functionality of the firearm. We do this in a variety of ways, including cycling of dummy rounds to check feeding, chambering, extraction, and ejection. Function check of the fire control system includes:

  • Dry Fire
  • Trigger Reset
  • Manual Safety Function

We will also measure the headspace of your firearm. Headspace is the fit between the cartridge case and the chamber in the axial direction. It is important for both safety and accuracy. Proper headspace prevents the casing from deforming too much under pressure which can lead to case failure. Optimized headspace helps accuracy by making the cartridge fit more concentrically in the chamber, as well as reducing the “flow” of brass to the front of the case allowing more reloads.
